Altercat is an independent record label based in Berlin. A one-man orchestra.

Born out of a passion for digging and DJing, Altercat is a one-man label dedicated to handmade, heartfelt and exciting music from all over the world, vintage as well as contemporary. Run out of Berlin by DJ and full-time traveller Sergi Roig, the catalogue knows neither boundaries nor borders. It spans from experimental Brazilian recordings to honey dripping jams out of Egypt, from almost forgotten musical pioneers to new aspiring bands. What the releases have in common is ruled by one force only, that, in the era of playlists and algorithms, has become increasingly rare: organically grown taste. As a matter of principle, Altercat works closely with the artists (and, if necessary, the heirs and executors) to guarantee best sound quality and a pleasant artwork for their music, as well as their fair share of royalties.

What do others say?

Yes, trying to talk about yourself without sounding like you’re blowing your own trumpet is a tough one. So let others have their say:

What does ‘altercat’ mean?

We get this one a lot. Yes, we love cats too, but altercat, in the Catalan language, is an ‘altercation’. Eine Auseinandersetzung. A heated or angry dispute; noisy argument or controversy — a quarrel, a clash.
